The BMW M5 (G90), launched in 2024, is the seventh generation of BMW’s flagship performance sedan and its first M5 to arrive as a plug-in hybrid. It pairs a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 585 PS with a 197 PS electric motor built into the 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox, for a combined system output of 727 PS and 1000 Nm of torque. An 18.6 kWh usable battery allows roughly 67-69 km of WLTP electric-only driving alongside full M xDrive all-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and adaptive M suspension. Inside, the cabin carries BMW’s curved display, M-specific sport seats and a suite of driver-assistance tech befitting a luxury performance sedan. In Bangladesh, the M5 is available in very limited numbers, mainly as new imports through authorised BMW dealers, with reconditioned examples of the previous F90 generation occasionally available through specialist importers.

BMW M5 Overview

The BMW M5 is the ultimate expression of BMW’s high-performance sedan lineage, aimed at a Bangladeshi buyer who wants Mercedes-AMG E63 or Audi RS6-rivalling performance with everyday usability. It sits at the top of the 5 Series range, blending a comfortable, tech-laden luxury cabin with genuine track-capable dynamics. In the Bangladesh market this is very much a halo purchase for established business owners, industrialists, or collectors rather than a volume seller, given its price and the rarity of proper servicing infrastructure locally. Buyers considering it are typically already BMW owners moving up, or car enthusiasts who want a daily-drivable performance flagship.

BMW M5 Features

Standard equipment on the M5 includes BMW’s curved display combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen running iDrive 8.5/9, along with a Harman Kardon or optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Comfort features include four-zone climate control, ventilated and heated M sport seats, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera system. Driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with steering assistance, lane departure warning, and parking assistant, all standard on this trim. Adaptive M suspension, active roll stabilisation, and M xDrive with selectable drive modes are core to the driving experience, while carbon-ceramic brakes remain an optional upgrade.

BMW M5 Engine

The M5’s twin-turbo V8 retains the theatrical, high-revving character BMW M is known for, but the addition of an electric motor changes how the power arrives. Off the line and at low speeds there’s a surge of near-instant electric torque, after which the V8 takes over with a deep, urgent surge all the way to its 7,200 rpm redline. The result is a car that feels effortlessly quick in daily traffic yet still delivers the drama expected of an M5 when pushed. Compared to rivals like the Mercedes-AMG E63 and Audi RS6, the M5’s hybrid system adds weight but also flexibility — short electric-only trips around Dhaka are genuinely usable, something none of its purely combustion-engined rivals can offer. The 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox shifts cleanly whether left in Comfort or pushed hard in Sport mode.

BMW M5 Variants

Globally, the G90 M5 is offered as a standard Sedan and, for the first time, an M5 Touring estate variant, though the Touring is unlikely to be imported to Bangladesh in meaningful numbers. Trim differences mostly revolve around optional packages — the M Driver’s Package that raises the top speed to 305 km/h, carbon-ceramic brakes, a carbon-fibre roof, and various Individual paint and Merino leather upholstery choices. In Bangladesh, most examples brought in are new imports specified close to a well-equipped Competition-style trim by the importer, since local buyers rarely order bare-bones configurations for a car at this price point. Reconditioned units in the market are typically the previous-generation F90 M5, which used the non-hybrid version of the same V8.
